Bush trimming is one of those tasks that a lot of homeowners avoid. They either don't have time, don't want to damage their plants, or some just lack the knowledge. If left alone bushes and shrubs become overgrown, lacking the flowers or leaves that usually made them desirable in the first place.
Not trimming your bushes can leave them large for a while, but what actually results is the interior branches stop getting sunlight and nutrients. Eventually the bush becomes too big to support itself, and begins to decay or thin out. The wood becomes unproductive, meaning fewer flowers and lowering the overall appeal of your landscape.
Regular bush trimming allows your plant to grow healthy and retain its natural shape. It promotes fresh growth, more flowers, and an overall stronger shrub. However, each shrub has its own ideal season and method of pruning.
